Please Note that the information provided here is based off the manga version of Tokyo Mew Mew. It is the version I am most familiar with and the one I prefer.

Ichigo from volume one. Name: Momomiya Ichigo
Name Meanings: Strawberry
Age: 12
Height: 152cm
Weight: 42 kg
Mew Idenity: Mew Ichigo

Momomiya Ichigo is the foremost protagonist of the series. She reflects all the qualities a "magical girl" usually does: ditzy, clumsy, but caring and sweet. Ichigo is the type of person who easily becomes everyone's friend. She is a determined and hardworking individual, even under pressure when working solo at the Café Mew Mew.

Another thing to note is Ichigo’s adoration for Aoyama Masaya. At first it is mere crush, but as the series progresses and circumstances push them closer together, they fall in love with one another. Masaya is her backbone, the force that gives her the strength to fight. If and when it came down it it, Ichigo would gladly give up everything to save him. Even though this site is about her relationship with another male character, it is important to mention her closeness with Masaya since it really is a vital point in her character.

When the Mew Mew Project was initiated, Ichigo was the one chosen to merge with the DNA of the Irimote Cat (a very rare and endangered species of wild cat located in a remote region of Taiwan). Because of this, Ichigo starts to become more “cat-like”, napping at school, eating fish, and always landing on her feet. However, when she becomes excited or flustered, a cat’s ears and tail pop out, which, as you could imagine, leads to a variety of problems. But that is not the only effect of the merge. When the situation calls for it, Ichigo can transform into Mew Ichigo, the pink clad, kitty girl leader of the quintette magical girl group, Tokyo Mew Mew.

Kisshu from the last page in volume one. Name: Kisshu
Name Meanings: Quiche
Age: Unknown
Height: About 178 cm
Weight: Unknown

Kisshu is the first antagonistic character to appear in the series. He is a cocky, sarcastic individual who enjoys laughing at and teasing his victims. He also likes the leadership role and being in control of the situation, but even with those qualities he also tends to somewhat exhibit a child's disposition when not being able to have what he wants.

Kisshu is one of the aliens that are working against the Mew Mews in an effort to find and awaken their master, Deep Blue, who is hidden somewhere on Earth. Their ultimate goal is to reclaim what was originally theirs, the planet Earth. His race had once been the inhabitors of Earth, but catastrophic conditions drove them to near extinction. So his race fled Earth and found sanctuary on another planet. However, this planet was far worse than Earth, a truly hellish environment where they had to built their city underground to survive. Huddled together in that cold and dark place, these people lived for generations with naught but a dream of one day seeing blue skies and clear water again. After returning back to the place that was once their precious homeland, Kisshu and his alien brethren find that the planet they left is now inhabited by humans, creatures who are destroying the planet with their own careless hands.

Kisshu first appears in the series at the end of volume one, when he swoops in for a kiss from Ichigo! And after that first encounter, Kisshu develops an infatuation for Ichigo which time and again compromises his judgment when concerning her. Eventually, that affection leads him to even question his loyalty to Deep Blue.

Kisshu and Ichigo's relationship is for lack of a better word, completely one-sided. Ichigo loves Masaya faithfully and completely, leaving no room for Kisshu in her heart, no matter how sincere his pleas are. Kisshu, on the other hand, loves Ichigo dearly and confesses those feelings to her on several occasions.
"What can I do? How can I make you mine? How can I make you love me?"
Ichigo mentally questions his intentions, but expresses no emotion over what she hears. It's obvious where her heart lies, but Kisshu never gives up. In the last volume, however, this changes somewhat, if only for a moment.

[Warning! Click here for spoilers]

Masaya, now awakened as Deep Blue, threatens to kill Ichigo along with all of the human race. Kisshu steps forward to prevent this, throwing away all loyalty to his master and challenges Deep Blue to a duel. It is a short battle, Kisshu fighting his hardest for the girl he loves, but quickly falls to the might Deep Blue's sword. Ichigo runs to his side to find him mortally wounded. She cradles his head in her lap and cries for him.
"Why are you crying Ichigo? I'll tell you something good. I love you. Anyway, holding you even just for a moment, it's so precious."
Those words no more than leave his lips when Kisshu dies in Ichigo's arms.

However, the story isn't over yet! After Masaya releases the Mew Aqua hidden within himself (by impaling his chest with Deep Blue's sword), everything is restored back to it's proper state, including the lives taken. Kisshu sits up and looks around wonderingly at the Mew Aqua drifting in the air around him. After Ichigo and Masaya have each other once more, Kisshu comes to her and kneels.
"Be happy. That's all I ask. In the end, your happiness is all I wish for.
But while he was saying that, his mind held another thought...
I want to thank you for giving me the chance to love you even though it was a hopeless love."
After giving Ichigo a final kiss on the cheek, Kisshu sets out with Pie and Tart to return to their world, intending to try making it beautiful, just like Earth.

Why do I love this pair enough to own their fanlisting? Well, simply put, Kisshu and Ichigo are my Tokyo Mew Mew OTP. I adore them to bits, one-sidedness and all. I really can't say it any better than that. X3
